“I needed someone just to listen – and that’s exactly what I got.” Funding success means we can listen to even more of you through our Listening Ear service this year

We are delighted to announce that thanks to further funding from the True Colours Trust we are able to continue our increasingly popular Listening Ear service for another year.

Since it was launched last April to help support families feeling overwhelmed during the pandemic, nearly 300 of you have called our free Listening Ear service to talk to one of our family support advisers about anything and everything such as:

• Ideas and tips for coping with stress and improving yours and your child’s wellbeing
• Practical ideas and pointers to help establish your child’s routine, improve their sleep or challenging behaviour
• Relationships with partners and siblings
• Just to have a chat with someone about the frustrating day, week  or month you’ve just had!

Further funding from the True Colours Trust means that we are now able to continue this service and offer just under 900, 1-1 telephone appointments with one of our family support advisers this year.

Shona Chambers, one of our family support advisers says: “As the mother of a son with additional needs I understand exactly where you are coming from as a parent carer and the challenges you face on a daily basis.  The pandemic has made everything more difficult, frustrating and worrying and sometimes  we could all do with being simply listened to by someone who ‘gets it’  and doesn’t judge. 

“That’s exactly what me and my colleagues on Contact’s Listening Ear service are here for. Big or small, practical or emotional – literally whatever you want to talk about we’re here to listen, reassure and support you. You aren’t alone.”
