East Midlands

Contact provides support, advice and information for families with disabled children, no matter what their condition or disability.

In the East Midlands, we carry out our service across through a team of project workers. Working at a local and regional level, we have up-to-date information on local services and support for families. 

Our East Midlands team offers:

  • help for families to find out what's available locally
  • details of local parent support groups
  • guidance for support groups and forums to help them to reach and involve parents
  • training for children's centres to help them reach and involve families with disabled children
  • resources for professionals to help them point families to the right local services.

The team covers the whole of the East Midlands area including: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.

SEND education workshop

An informal workshop for parents of disabled and special needs children which looks at appealing any aspect of an Education Health Care Plan including refusal to assess, refusal to issue or challenging the content of the plan.  The workshop will be delivered by specialist SEN solicitor Laxmi Patel, who heads up the Boyes Turner Education Team.  There will be time for discussion and questions.

Making SENse of the new legal system, Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, challenging decisions

An informal workshop for parents of disabled and special needs children focusing on what to do if you are unhappy with the content of an EHC plan. The workshop will look at how each section of the EHC plan can be challenged and enforced; and explore the most effective ways of doing this.  The workshop will be delivered by Gurvinder Kaur, a specialist solicitor with Access Legal. There will be time for discussion and questions.

Making decisions for your adult child - the Law

This free workshop for parents of disabled and special needs young people will help parents understand their legal options in making decisions for their adult child. The workshop will be delivered by Ruth Moore of Slater Gordon Lawyers and it will look at the Mental Capacity Act 2005:
