Improving health services
Since the Children & Families Act there has been an increased emphasis on health organisations working in partnership with local authorities, including a duty to jointly commission education, health and care services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This joint commissioning has been one of the more difficult elements of the SEND reforms, particularly at a time when the NHS has a whole is undergoing a lot of 'transformational change'. The NHS can be a complex and confusing system both for parent carers and parent carer forums.
These pages offer some resources and guidance for parent carer forums to better understand the NHS and how you might engage with your local health organisations to improve services and outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
