Parent carer participation grant and monitoring (England)

Contact a Family administers a grant of up to £15,000 available for one parent carer forum in each local authority area of England, funded by the Department for Education (DfE). The grant is used to strengthen parent carer forums, so that parent carers can participate in planning and decision-making about services in their area.

Why are the monitoring and application forms available online only?

We have moved to an online platform for the grant monitoring and grant application forms this year. This is so that we have ready access to the information you provide to us, for both Contact a Family and Department of Education (DfE) reporting purposes. Microsoft Word is no longer suitable for this purpose as a number of compatibility issues have arisen over the years.  

The new web form will allow ease of access for those working on tablets and mobile phones, so it will help those forums on the move, but you will need a reliable internet connection for it to work effectively.

Those forums who have had their monitoring signed off and who have already claimed their second tranche of the grant are eligible to apply for a discretionary grant from 4 July 2017.  This is in addition to the regional discretionary grants that we have already made available. 

The deadline for both second tranche payments and discretionary grants is Monday 13 November 2017 - we will not be able to accept any claims after this date. Further details of how to claim the second tranche and discretionary grants can be found below.

Second tranche grant payments

We are accepting claims for the second tranche payment of the 2017/18 parent carer participation grant from forums whose 2016/17 has been approved.  Forms must be received by 13 November 2017.

Discretionary Grant Applications

Forums whose 2016/17 monitoring has been approved and who have already successfully claimed the second tranche of the grant can also from 1 July make a discretionary grant application if they wish to. Applications must be received by 13 November 2017 and must be supported by your regional parent carer participation adviser.

Your forum might wish to apply for a discretionary grant in order to complete an additional piece of work, a consultation, host an event or training, buy new equipment - or something else which has arisen and is a new priority for your forum since the original grant form was submitted. 

Please discuss any potential applications with your regional parent carer participation adviser, as they will need to support your application. The same grant conditions apply as to the main grant.  All discretionary grants are dependent on enough funding being available.

2017/18 grant application

The application process for 2017/18 is now open.

Applications can be submitted at any point between now and the closing date of Monday 5 June 2017. You are encouraged to submit your applications at the earliest opportunity to ensure you receive the grant in the first quarter of 2017/18.

If you have a large underspend from your 2016/17 grant and it is larger than the first half of your grant application in 2017/18 (which is usually £7,500) then please discuss this with us before you apply.

Please be aware that the DfE will not be able to issue payments until after 1 April 2017, so any applications received and approved before this date will not be sent to the department until then.

2016/17 grant monitoring

Forums that received the parent carer participation grant from the DfE in 2016/17 must submit a grant monitoring form and associated proofs of expenditure.

Grant monitoring forms for 2016/17 can be submitted now and must be received by the closing date of Friday 28 April 2017.
