A heartfelt thank you from helpline caller Lynne

We received some lovely feedback on our helpline service recently from mum Lynne. Our parent advisers answer over 12,000 queries a year, so it's great when we hear that we're making a difference.

We want to make sure even more parents can get the support they need, so we asked Lynne if she'd like to blog about her experiences to encourage others to get in touch.

I felt compelled to write about the support I received from the special educational needs team on the Contact helpline. They have been wonderful.

I have been battling for seven months to get my son from one special school to another and just succeeded on 8 June to secure him a place in the new school from September this year.

It has been a long and extremely challenging seven months. I felt abandoned by the local authority, the school, everyone. However, the team at Contact and all of the wonderful people who helped me were like a light in the dark, and I really mean that.

They understood what my child was going through and myself. As well as giving me so much good advice, they were gentle and kind to me and kept me going in my battle, as well as enabling me with knowledge to be more credible in my battle. I felt they were the only ones who understood and saw the gravity of the situation.

I must have rang them over eight times, and on every occasion they gave me excellent advice, were patient, showed great empathy and had expert knowledge on children with special educational needs. I was never rushed off the phone and always had as long as I needed.

I want to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, and I have already passed Contact's details to another friend. I will never forget how they were there when no one else was.

This is an absolutely wonderful service Thank you so much.
