Expert advice you simply won’t find anywhere else

Following a call to the benefits experts on our helpline, Daniel was relieved to find out that the advice he'd been given previously was wrong. Here's Daniel talking about his experience calling our helpline.

I live in London and was working full time until my severely disabled son came from Ireland to live with me. His care needs meant I had to give up work, so you can imagine how anxious I was when another advice agency told me that before I could make a claim for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or any other benefits for myself as a carer, my son needed to be in the UK for at least two years. 

I called the benefits experts on Contact's helpline, and was extremely relieved to find out that the advice I'd been given previously was wrong. I could claim DLA straightaway. And as well as being awarded £79.95 DLA per week, with their help I was also able to claim £64.60 a week in Carers Allowance and Universal Credit payments of £840 per month - making a transformational difference to my family.

I was amazed to be able to get such detailed advice over the telephone. I was so impressed with your knowledge about my rights. When I was originally told I would have to wait two years before I could claim for my son I assumed that this must be correct, especially when I saw stuff online that said the same.

I'm so relieved that I called Contact and was able to speak to you, as otherwise my family would have missed out on so much. I felt so reassured after I spoke to you. It's great knowing that there is someone there to help, and who genuinely wants to ensure I get everything I am entitled to.

There are so many challenges in looking after a disabled child it makes me feel that there is someone who is there who is on my side.
