Three cheers for Contact’s marathon miracles - meet our first runner Claire

The London Marathon is just six weeks away and this year Contact has 19 amazing runners taking part - the biggest team we've ever had. On Sunday 28 April, they will be making a huge difference to Contact, to help us continue providing support to thousands of families with disabled children in the UK.

Over the next few weeks we will be finding out a bit more about them, cheering on their tremendous training efforts and sending them good luck wishes for the big day.

Here Claire Gillick from Tonbridge tells us why she is running one of the most famous road races in the world, to raise money for Contact.

Tell us a little bit about yourselfMarathon Runner Claire

I live in Hildenborough Tonbridge, I'm married to Stuart Gillick and we have three children. I work as a School Business Manager for Park Hill Junior school based in South Croydon.

I started running two years ago and have really been bitten by the running bug. London Marathon will be my third marathon as I've already done Brighton and Beachy Head. I belong to a running group called Just Run, which is great to be part of.

Why did you decide to support Contact by taking part in the London Marathon?

I wanted to support Contact as working in a school I've seen the affect a disability can have on a family and the difficulties that some can face and I wanted to make people aware of the amazing charity.

What has been the biggest challenge in your London marathon journey so far?

The biggest challenge is fitting the training in with my busy schedule being a mum and working. But I'm dedicated and will continue to push through.

What are you most/least excited about?

I am so, so excited to run the London Marathon. For the past couple of years I've watched in awe of all the runners and wanted to be one.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside running?

My hobbies are generally keeping fit being of an age now and to live life to the full.
