Contact’s Brighter Beginnings early years workshops

Thursday 28th March 2019

Contact, is running a series of welcoming and informative workshops for parents of young children with additional needs to help them with some of the unique challenges they face.

Our Brighter Beginnings workshops are being delivered over the next year in five English regions - North West, North East, West Midlands, East Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber.

Getting support early

Helen Davies, Brighter Beginnings Project Manager at Contact, said: "Getting support early can make a real difference to parent carers and as a result of that the whole family benefits. That's why we are so excited to be rolling out our Brighter Beginnings workshops in some areas and in the future we hope these will be offered wherever there is a need."

Parents of children aged 0-8 with additional needs are invited to attend all four sessions to get the full benefits of the course.

In June we will be delivering workshops in Tyne & Wear and Manchester and will have details of those workshops and more on our website soon. Keep checking the Contact in your area section of our website and click on local events to see what's happening in your area.

The workshops are part of the EYSEND (early years special educational needs and disabilities) partnership and are funded by the Department for Education. They are a reduced version of Contact's full 6 week Brighter Beginnings programme.

Positive impact

We are currently preparing the full 6 week Brighter Beginnings programme to be delivered to parents and we hope these will be offered wherever there is a need. Following a pilot of the programme in Wales, 94 per cent of families attending said it made a positive impact to them and their families. They had a practical influence on parents who increased their take-up of services and financial benefits and also reduced feelings of isolation.
