It's national co-production week!

Tuesday 2nd July 2019

It's national co-production week and a chance to focus on how families can transform services for their disabled children by working in equal partnership with the organisations that design and commission them. It's something that we've been doing for over 10 years at Contact in our role as delivery partner of the Department for Education in supporting Parent Carer Forums in England.

And we'll be celebrating Parent Carer Forums and their co-production work at our Together at 40 Awards on the 8th of July when we will announce the winner of our brand new category for this year, Excellence in Parent Carer Participation.

Excellence in Parent Carer Participation Award finalists announced

Three Parent Carer Forums have been shortlisted for a Contact Award including:

  • Bristol Parent Carers and former Chair, Caroline Temple-Bird who set the forum up in 2010, were nominated for the forum's achievements setting up a short breaks transport service and reaching out to black, Asian and minority ethnic communities in the city and getting parents involved in participation. Of Caroline the nomination form said: "Caroline was determined that local services should consider the needs of the 91 language communities in our city and has left a lasting legacy in that.
  • South Glos Parents & Carers was founded in 2009 by now CEO Rachel Trueman along with two other parents. The forum was nominated for the support they give local families and building relationships with the local council and health service to improve services for local families.
  • York Parent Carer Forum was set up in 2013 and was nominated for the work they have done to work in true partnership with the city council to drive improvement and development in local services for children and young people with additional needs. This includes working with the council to develop new services that reflect the needs of families like having intensive support at home when children have autism and challenging behaviour.

Shortlisted families and Parent Carer Forums are invited to a very special awards ceremony and reception at the Members Dining Room at the Palace of Westminster, hosted by Radio 4 Woman's Hour presenter Jane Garvey on July 8 2019, where the winners will be announced.
