Parent Carer Forums in Wales making a difference

Thursday 15th October 2020

Parent carer forums are well established in England, but there is also some great work happening in Wales.

There are several Welsh forums in which parent carers are working together with their local services to influence positive change for all families with disabled children in the area.

Shaping and planning services

Swansea Parent Carer Forum launched in October last year and has made great strides in getting involved in shaping and planning services.

In its first few months of work, the forum developed a survey on the experience of Swansea families of Carers Needs Assessments. They produced a report from those survey findings to share with professionals so they have greater understanding of the issues local parent carers face.

They also produced information packs on local services and areas of support, which were translated into Welsh.
