Round up of our Carer's Allowance Q&A

Wednesday 7th August 2019

Thanks to everyone who took part in our Carer's Allowance Facebook Q&A last week - our biggest one yet!

The Q&A was hosted by parent advisers Derek, Marian, Jesslyn and Lisa from our helpline team.

One person asked whether claiming Carer's Allowance could have an impact on the other benefits her friend is claiming. Derek explained that Carer's Allowance is treated as income for means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit. Find out more about how Carer's Allowance affects other benefits.

Another parent asked how many hours she could do in college while still receiving Carer's Allowance for her son. Jesslyn explained that you cannot get Carer's Allowance if you're in full-time education or if you're in part-time education and it involves more than 21 hours of "supervised study" each week. Jess also advised that anyone receiving a bursary should investigate how it could impact their benefits. Find out more about Carer's Allowance and studying.
