Round up of our Carer's Allowance Q&A

Tuesday 19th May 2020

Huge thanks to everyone who took part in our Carer's Allowance Facebook Q&A last week!

The Q&A was hosted by our Family Finance advisers from our helpline team.

We had some questions about what should happen in the coronavirus pandemic. One person asked if she could claim Carer's Allowance now she was claiming self employed support from the government. Our Family Finance team explained that this is still likely to be treated as income for Carer's Allowance, so it depends on whether the self- employed earnings average out to more than £128 per week (after taking off certain expenses). However, the Carer's Allowance Unit can now average out earnings over a shorter period.
