School transport survey – how does the school transport loophole affect you?

Wednesday 13th November 2019

In partnership with parents at SEND Action and the #closetheloop campaign group we are today launching a survey to find out how the school transport loophole is affecting families in England.

The loophole has created an unfair situation where children under five are expected to be in education, and young people aged 16-19 are legally required to be, but more and more are being denied or charged for transport to get there.

Our survey asks questions on what travel arrangements local authorities provide for 16-19 year olds and under 5s, how many are being charged and at what level, and whether discretionary funds such as the 16-19 bursary are helping with travel costs.

If you have a child, aged 4 or 16-19, please take 10 minutes to complete our survey. The deadline is Monday 2 December 2019.

We will use the evidence to call on the next government to close the loophole in school transport for post-16 and under-five disabled children.
