Today we launch our Changing Lives Appeal
Tuesday 5th November 2019
Today we launch our Changing Lives Appeal.
We're celebrating 40 years of Contact and asking you to help us continue changing the lives of families with disabled children.
We're asking if you're able to donate £40 or £4 a month - or anything you're able to give, because every penny really does count.
"Contact has stopped us feeling so alone" - Emine's story
Contact was founded in 1979 in Wandsworth, London, by a group of parent carers who came together to support each other.
We've provided that same local support for 40 years and continue to do so for parents today across the UK. Like mum Emine, whose daughter Aysen has autism, learning disabilities, speech and motor dyspraxia and dyslexia.
"Contact has helped my family with endless issues over the years, including helping me understand what benefits we're entitled to and answering questions I've had about my daughter's education. And we've taken part in many workshops, family events and activities organised by Contact.
"But one of the biggest factors for me has been that Contact has stopped us feeling so alone. We are part of a bigger family who can support each other.
"Sadly families like mine continue to face the same battles and having the same arguments with the system. That's why I joined my local parent carer forum and promote it to others to help families see that they do have a voice. If I can help future generations I will feel I have given something back."
Could you help change a family's life?
Contact is unique in supporting families with disabled children, no matter their condition or disability. We understand the challenges common to all families, however far along they are in their journey.
If you can, please donate to our Changing Lives Appeal.
