Upcoming 15 February deadline for final EHC plans
Monday 21st January 2019
Does your child have an Education Health Care (EHC) plan? Are they moving to primary school or secondary school this year? If so 15 February is an important date to remember.
This is the deadline when the local authority must issue a final amended EHC plan naming the school your child will go to from September 2019.
15 February is a legal deadline which means the local authority must comply with it.
Before the local authority issue the final plan, they must send you a draft EHC plan and ask for your views. The local authority must also ask you to say which school you would like your child to go to. In order to meet the deadline your local authority should already have done these steps.
See our admissions webpage for more information about this process and if you are worried about your situation, please contact our helpline.
If your local authority does not name the school you want, you have the right to appeal to the First Tier Tribunal for Special Educational Needs and Disability. You can also ask for mediation if you want to.
Please contact our helpline for further advice in this situation.
