Tell us what you think - consultation on personal independence payment
Monday 24th June 2013
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced a consultation on the Moving around activity which is part of the assessment for the mobility component of personal independence payment (PIP).
This consultation is welcome after widespread disappointment when the final version of the PIP regulations tightened the assessment criteria for the Moving around activity distance from 50 to 20 metres.
The government consultation runs until 5 August 2013.
Personal independence payment (PIP) replaced disability living allowance (DLA) for adults aged 16-64 at the beginning of June this year for those making a new claim. PIP will start to replace existing DLA claims from October 2013. DLA will continue as a seperate benefit for children aged under 16.
Claims for PIP will continue to be processed under the current benefit rules until the outcomes of the consultation are decided.
