Effective networking for parent-led groups

Local parent-led support groups are a vital resource within a community and can take many forms, including community groups, parent-to-parent support groups and small localised charities.

Whatever form they take, these groups provide tangible and valuable peer support networks for parents and carers. Families can support each other and learn from each other's experiences, knowledge and expertise.

This course builds on our unique and popular Re:Group model, developed in partnership with many of the parent-led groups in our Local Groups Network. Within it we combine elements of training in effective networking with a wider facilitated session involving other groups and agencies in your area with whom you wish to engage.

Whether your group is very new or well-established, this informative and transformative workshop will help you build your relationships and strengthen your networks.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone involved in running, or interested in forming or strengthening, a community group that supports other families in the area.

It has been developed by our support groups manager and based on her work with over 700 parent-led groups across the UK, as well as the experiences and expertise of parents themselves. It will be delivered by our experienced Contact a Family practitioners with, where appropriate, input from other local organisations.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Be ready to use a range of preferred tools and approaches for effective networking, customised to your local circumstances.
  • Have identified methods for attracting new members and retaining existing ones.
  • Understand who is in your wider network, who else could be, and how to best identify and work to build partnerships and alliances in your area.
