We had a great time with 20 families with disabled children on an outdoor adventure last week in Sherwood Forest — where they enjoyed accessible zip-lining, climbing walls, a sensory trail, and even a scavenger hunt!

Many said this was their first time going out as a family in years because of how hard it is to find inclusive activities, especially ones where siblings can have fun together.

Some families travelled quite far to join us because of how rare these opportunities are.

The exciting day at the Woodland Adventure Zone couldn’t have happened without a generous £150,000 grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation for this and other events like it across the country. We are so grateful for their support.

The grant from Nottinghamshire Freemasons comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is funded by Freemasons, their families and friends, from across England and Wales.

Harriet Squirrell, Contact’s Better Together Events Manager, said:

“We’re very grateful to Nottinghamshire Freemasons for their generous grant. Many families with disabled children have felt so isolated during the pandemic and Contact’s Better Together events like this wonderful visit to the Woodland Adventure Zone are the perfect antidote to this. They’re an opportunity for families to share fun experiences, help them make friends and build support networks.”

Our next FREE family event will be an all-singing, all-dancing Milkshake! live show at Swan Theatre in Worcester. Book your place on our Eventbrite page.
