The DinoDay ChallengeTake on an activity of your choice in the DinoDay Challenge, our annual event to help raise funds for our vital support services for families with disabled children. Why we need your help The DinoDay Challenge is our annual fundraising event, helping us raise funds so we can continue to change the lives of families with disabled children. The money also helps us campaign to tackle the inequalities that families with disabled children face, like we did for Cameron Mathieson’s family and thousands of others since. You can read more about Cameron’s story, the inspiration behind the DinoDay Challenge, below. How you can get involved Take part in our fundraising challenge and get a free t-shirt!Walk 19 miles, draw 19 dinosaurs, try 19 new foods or visit the park 19 times. Whatever you choose to do in June as part of our DinoDay Challenge is up to you, as long as the number 19 is involved! The 2024 challenge is now closed, but you can register for the next one in early 2025. Ask your child’s school or nursery to get involvedWe’re inviting primary schools and nurseries to participate by asking their children to dress up as a dinosaur or wear green for the day for a suggested donation of £1 per child. We’ve also created a series of fun dino-themed activities to run in class that help raise awareness of disability.REGISTER your interest The inspiration behind the DinoDay Challenge The inspiration behind the DinoDay Challenge is Cameron Mathieson. Cameron had both Cystic Fibrosis and Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and sadly passed away when he was five years old after spending over two years in hospital. At that time, children who spent over 12 weeks in hospital lost their Disability Living Allowance (DLA). Here at Contact, we supported the Mathieson family’s legal challenge to this unfair rule. With our support, the family won their case at the Supreme Court and since then, no other family with a child who spends long periods in hospital has been denied this essential financial support. Cameron, who was born on 19 June, loved dinosaurs – or as he called them, Dowsers. His favourite Dowser was Troy, a green triceratops!
