Getting a good night’s sleep A child who does not sleep well can affect the whole family. Disabled children and those with certain medical conditions are more likely to experience problems with sleeping, making it especially important for those in the sector to know how to identify sleep patterns, which factors can affect poor sleep and what to do about it. This course helps professionals and parents understand the impact of poor sleep on behaviour and educational attainment and how to support families to implement creative and proven methods of improving sleep patterns in young children. Looking beyond the child, it also discusses how best to support tired parents. Who is the course aimed at? This course is designed to support the parents of young children who have difficulty sleeping. It is based on the most recent good practice guidance and parent carers themselves as experts in their own experience. By the end of the course, participants will: Have identified patterns to a child’s sleep and understand how activities can help to change and improve a bedtime routine. Understand ways in which you can promote behaviour change to improve a child’s sleep patterns. Understand how to encourage better bedtime routines by using different techniques.
