Key dates: Are you ready to vote?

Although the General Election isn’t until the Thursday 4 July, there are a few deadlines that you need to know about sooner.
If you’re voting in person, now is the time to check that you can easily locate your photo ID, as you’ll need it to vote. The list of what is considered acceptable ID can be found here. If you don’t have any of these you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.
All polling stations should be accessible, if you are concerned about any accessibility issues please check with your local council.
Key dates
Tuesday 18 June by 11:59pm
- Deadline to register to vote in person at a polling station: Register to vote – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Wednesday 19 June by 5pm
- Deadline to register to vote by post. Learn more about getting a postal vote: Apply for a postal vote – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Wednesday 26 June by 5pm
- Deadline to register to for a proxy vote. This is when you want someone to vote for you: Apply for a proxy vote – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
- Deadline to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. You can get one of these if you do not have any ID that you can show if you want to vote in person: Apply for photo ID to vote (called a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Thursday 4 July
Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm
