October is Black History Month and the theme this year is ‘Honouring Our Communities’.

Black History Month brings people together to celebrate culture, history and achievements of Black and minority ethnic communities – remembering the past and focusing on the future.

As always there is a packed programme of events happening across the UK.

Take a look at the excellent Black History Month website for articles, profile and history articles and a calendar of events taking place around the country.

There are a number of events happening in London here including:

The Black Poetry Shutdown – Black History Month 2026

Black British Book Festival 2026 | Barbican

Black History Tour of British Museum

NLA Walking Tour: Brixton Black History

The Music is Black: A British Story Exhibition at V&A East Museum

Contact is here for all families

At Contact, honouring our communities means having a commitment to listening to and learning from the diverse experiences of families with disabled children. We want to make sure that Contact is a place where everyone feels supported – no matter what their race, religion or background – and for all families to know that we are here for them, feel seen and valued, and are able to shape the support we provide.
