Friday 2 September 2022
Tax credit claimants will receive the first instalment of their £650 cost of living payment between 2 and 7 September, the government has confirmed.
If you qualify for this payment, you will not need to make a claim. A payment of £326 should arrive into the account in which you receive your tax credits. A family receiving both working tax credit and child tax credit into separate accounts will receive the payment into the same account as child tax credit.
Families who claim Department for Work & Pensions means-tested benefits, such as Universal Credit, should have received their first instalment in July. The includes those paid means-tested benefits alongside tax credits. The September payment is for those who get tax credits only.
The government has also confirmed that it will start paying the £150 to people on a disability benefit, such as Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP), from 20 September. Payments are made automatically. The vast majority of people eligible should have received their one-off payment by the beginning of October.
