What is the Scottish Carer Supplement?

This is a weekly payment for carers in Scotland who receive the Carer Support Payment. It has replaced the twice-yearly lump sum payment with an equivalent amount but paid each week.

You need to be receiving actual payments of Carer Support Payment or Carer’s Allowance – it’s not enough merely to have an underlying entitlement to the benefits or to receive the carer’s element of Universal Credit.

These payments don’t count as income when calculating entitlement to other benefits.

How do I get a Scottish Carer Supplement?

You do not need to apply for the supplement. Instead, you will receive the payment automatically, provided you are in receipt of Carer Support Payment.

If you think you should qualify but don’t receive the payment, contact Social Security Scotland on 0800 182 2222 (8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday).

If you’re a British Sign Language user, you can use the contactSCOTLAND app to contact Social Security Scotland by video relay. Alternatively, you can write to: Scottish Carer Supplement, PO Box 10302, Dundee, DD1 9FX.
