Family fun day in Yorkshire a hit! Families living with hemiplegia recently came together for a free fun afternoon of sports activities in Yorkshire and had the time of their lives. Hosted by Disability Sports Yorkshire, children who attended the session took part in a variety of mainstream sports and had the opportunity at trying their hand at some disability specific sports they previously had never seen. The youngsters took part in all the activities as did the siblings – and some of the parents did too! Families told us they thought that the trainers were brilliant and the fact that the lead trainer has hemiplegia himself meant there was an instant connection with the kids and the parents. It was all very relaxed – although the tennis games got very competitive! Activities included basketball, football, tennis and boccia – which was adapted so that everyone in the hall could take part, no matter what their age. Children and young people were able to meet others with hemiplegia, and parents were able to share information and experiences too. Keep your eye on the HemiHelp newsletter and closed Facebook group for announcements about future events – do come and join us!
