The Talking About Tomorrow project

Contact Scotland launched the Talking About Tomorrow website in 2018, as a seperate, stand-alone resource covering all aspects of the transition to adult life in Scotland. It provided information on key topics such as benefits, healthcare, legal matters, employment, and education.
The project was created and developed by Contact Scotland with a grant from the Scottish Government’s Children, Young People & Families Early Intervention (CYPFEIF) and Adult Learning and Empowering Communities (ALEC) Fund. It was created in partnership with and for parent carers, with the name ‘Talking About Tomorrow’ chosen by parents themselves.
Working in partnership
Contact also worked in partnership with the following organisations:

Lead Scotland provides learning, befriending and helpline services for disabled people and carers. They have projects across Scotland and a national helpline and information service. They support people to reach their ambitions of personal development, learning, volunteering and work. At a national level, we provide information and advice on the full range of post-school learning and training opportunities, as well as influencing and informing policy. www.lead.org.uk.

ARC Scotland advances knowledge, practice and policy for the benefit of all people who need additional support so they can live the lives they choose. They want communities across Scotland to celebrate difference, respect, listen to and include everyone. They believe all people with additional support needs, and their families, are experts by experience and we bring people and organisations together to work for change. www.arcscotland.org.uk.

Gillespie Macandrew is a leading independent Scottish law firm providing legal services to businesses and individuals and their families. Their advice covers all areas of commercial, private client and property law and they can also advise on disputes and tax matters. With offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, they can serve clients from across Scotland and the wider UK. Find out how they can help you by visiting www.gillespiemacandrew.co.uk.
PAMIS, the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland, and Sense Scotland also provided further support to the project.
Parent carer participation
The content would not have been possible without the views, feedback and input from so many parent carers. They made an enormous contribution by attending workshops, sharing their experiences, and reviewing the website. Thanks to the parent and charity organisations involved, including:
- B.A.N.G. in the Borders
- The Galaxy Group in Aberdeenshire
- Signpost Online in West Lothian
- PlayAlloa in Clackmannanshire
- TouchBase Ayrshire in Ardrossan
- Thriving Families (formerly Chip+ in Inverness)
- Enable in Fife
Contact’s new Talking About Tomorrow hub
When the funding for the Talking About Tomorrow website ended, we had to review its future. In 2025, we decided to close the website and move all of the content to the Contact website. This means the resources, information and guidance will have a secure, permanent home and will continue to be updated long into the future. It also helps us to reach more families through Contact’s large network and community.
