NI Transitions Project: evaluation report In 2021, Contact NI and Carers NI secured funding from the Big Lottery Community Fund to run a three-year programme called ‘Preparing for Transition’. The programme was designed to support parent carers in helping their disabled children transition from education to adult life. It provided parent carers with vital information about their rights, what to expect at each stage, how to find and access support services, and their future options. The programme involved the delivery of workshops and peer support sessions in schools (both mainstream and specialist) and community venues across Northern Ireland. Regional opportunity fairs, open to the wider public, provided further support and resources. When the programme ended in June 2024, Contact asked an independent research company, Outcomes Imp, to evaluate its impact. The evaluation assessed the planning and delivery of the programme and gathered data and feedback from parent carers, SENCOs, and Contact staff. We also asked Outcomes Imp to make some recommendations to help us plan for future projects. Download the full evaluation report. Download the executive summary report.
