Why we need your help

We’re raising funds this DinoDay so we can continue to change the lives of families with disabled children with our vital services and information. The money will also help us campaign to tackle the inequalities that families with disabled children face, like we did for Cameron Mathieson’s family and thousands of others since. You can read more about Cameron’s story, the inspiration behind DinoDay, below.

How you can get involved

Take part in our Stomp & Roar 19-day fundraising challenge and get a free t-shirt!

Walk 19 miles, draw 19 dinosaurs, try 19 new foods or visit the park 19 times – whatever you choose to do this June as part of our DinoDay Challenge is up to you, as long as the number 19 is involved! Simply register to join and ask your friends and family to sponsor your fundraiser so we can support more disabled children and their families.

Once you get at least one donation to your fundraiser, we’ll send your child a free DinoDay t-shirt and a printed activity tracker in the post.

The inspiration behind DinoDay

Cameron Mathieson Dinoday

The inspiration behind DinoDay is Cameron Mathieson, who had both Cystic Fibrosis and Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and sadly passed away when he was five years old after spending over two years in hospital.

At that time, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) was taken away from children who spent over 12 weeks in hospital. Here at Contact, we supported the Mathieson family’s legal challenge to this unfair rule. With our support, the family won their case at the Supreme Court and since then, no other family with a child who spends long periods in hospital has been denied this essential financial support.

Cameron, who was born on 19 June, loved dinosaurs – or as he called them, Dowsers – and his favourite Dowser was a green triceratops called Troy!
