As we celebrate Black History Month this October, we recognise the diversity of our communities.
Sheffield Parent Carer Forum was delighted to bring local support closer to families at a community drop-in event at Sheffield Grand Mosque.
The event brought together 15 local organisations and welcomed 82 parent carers and family members. Families had the opportunity to meet support services, ask questions and find out more about help available.
The Mosque provided a warm, friendly and welcoming space. Families could feel comfortable, meet other parent carers, and enjoy some hospitality while accessing information and support.
One parent carer said:
“What a fantastic event! All the information I could possibly need to help my child in one place!”
Another said:
“It was lovely to attend an event at the Mosque!”
The event came about through the collaboration between Sheffield Parent Carer Forum, Sheffield Grand Mosque and a range of local partner organisations. This partnership demonstrated the positive impact of working together to connect families with the support available to them. The forum plans to hold similar events in the future.
At Contact and for parent carer forums, celebrating diversity means making sure parent carers from all communities and backgrounds feel welcome, listened to and able to access the support they need.
The forum’s collaboration with Sheffield Grand Mosque is a great example of how inclusive, community-based approaches can help families feel welcomed, connected and better able to access the support available to them.
