Accessibility

We are committed to offering a website that is accessible to the widest audience possible, regardless of the technology available to them or their own ability.

As a charity that receives significant public funding, we adhere to the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. To meet these regulations, we aim to achieve WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. We have published an accessibility compliance statement, below, explaining how accessible our website is.

Compliance statement

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for disabled people. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The Contact website is 97% compliant with WCAG 2.1 level AA*. This means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Additional accessibility considerations

Although our goal is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, we also aim to apply some Level AAA Success Criteria:

Accessibility & language toolbar

We have installed the Recite Me assistive toolbar to help visitors browse our site using a variety of features. These include screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, colour customisation and language translation.

Please note that some customisation combinations might impact elements of the functionality of our site.

The Recite Me assistive translation function uses third-party providers, including Google, Microsoft and Amazon. It offers an approximate translation of our online information, advice and support. We provide this tool for your convenience only. We do not warrant the accuracy of, nor are we liable for any action taken as a result of, any translation generated by the tool.

You can access our accessibility tool from the header menu at the top of the page, on desktop, or the burger menu on mobile (☰).

More help finding and using the toolbar

Finding the toolbar on desktop:

A child in a wheelchair smiling beside a person wearing a blue shirt. The website header reads "Contact," with options like "Help," "Support Us," and "News." A sidebar invites viewers to take a school transport survey.

Finding the toolbar on mobile or tablet:

A website menu from "Contact" for families with disabled children. Options include Help for Families, Support Us, Practitioners, About Contact, and News & Views. A young person in a wheelchair is partially visible on the left.

Using the toolbar:

You can find a user guide on the Recite Me website.

Please note that screen reading autoplay is turned on by default to help those with visual impairments. You can turn this off in settings.
