The final score is in for Contact’s annual DinoDay fundraiser. We are thrilled to share that 620 roar-some children and young people took part this year to raise a whopping £52,271 to support families with disabled children across the UK.

Throughout June, children, families, schools and Scout groups took on 19 exciting activities, whether that was walking or running 19 minutes, visiting 19 different parks, trying 19 different foods, riding 19 trains, or doing 19 acts of kindness.

Inspirational community

Beena Patel, Contact’s Head of Individual Giving, said: “Children and young people from across the UK have got into the DinoDay spirit and we couldn’t be more grateful for their incredible efforts. It really is an inspirational community led by youngsters who want to make a difference and help others. Thank you to each and every one of you, your support will make a difference to families up and down the country.”

Fundraisers include eight-year-old dinosaur fan Finn Allison and his classmates at Weddington Primary School in Nuneaton. Finn and his Year 3 school friends did a 19-minute walk on the playing fields to raise an incredible £700.

Finn took inspiration from his mum who recently did the London Marathon, saying he wanted to do something to help other children and families in a similar situation to them.

Children wore green and carried dinosaurs

Mum, Amie Allison, said: “I showed him a few amazing charities that support disabled children, and he chose Contact and their DinoDay Challenge, because he likes green and dinosaurs.

“What started as Finn’s idea quickly became something much bigger. He wanted all of his school friends to join in, and his school embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Every child received a sponsor form, and together they raised over £700. To celebrate the challenge, the children all wore green, carried dinosaurs, and joined Finn on a 19-minute walk. Seeing everyone come together to support such an important cause was incredibly moving, and we couldn’t be prouder of Finn and every single child who took part. A huge thank you to the staff, children, parents, family and friends who supported the challenge and donated so generously. Your kindness and encouragement have made a real difference.”

Finn’s teacher at Weddington Primary School Miss Bisma Mohamed, said: “As his teachers, we have watched Finn put his heart into this fundraiser from the very beginning. He has spoken so passionately about taking part in the DinoDay Challenge and wanting to raise money for Contact because he knows how important your work is. Seeing him achieve his goal has been an extremely special moment for all of us.”

Finn was not alone in getting the backing and support from his school. A 12-year-old from Wigan raised a staggering amount for Contact’s Dino Day. Troy Ashcroft smashed his target of £150 to raise a whopping £1,249. Fellow pupils as well as teachers and staff at Landgate school supported his challenge and cheered him along the way. What a fantastic achievement, thank you Troy!
