In a couple of weeks, most children in England, Northern Ireland and Wales will return to school after the summer holidays. Children in Scotland have returned already.

Starting a new school year – or even joining a new school – can be an anxious time for children and parents. But we’re here to help.

Top tips for starting school

Read our pointers – put together by a special educational needs teacher and parents themselves – on settling into a new school.

Our podcast episode, Top tips for starting school, has lots of advice on moving to a new class or to a new school.

If your child is moving into further education, visit our webpage on education beyond 16 (England only) to learn about the support they’re entitled to. Similarly, we have advice on early years education (England only) for children starting nursery or pre-school.

And if your child is struggling to adapt, you might want to listen to our webinar on support strategies for managing behaviour and anxiety.
