An open letter published today by Gillian Keegan MP, Secretary of State for Education, confirms the Department for Education (DfE)’s plans to publish its response to the SEND and Alternative Provision Green Paper consultation.

The government published the SEND and Alternative Provision (AP) Green Paper in March 2022. It then opened a consultation on its plans which ran until July 2022.

In today’s letter, Ms Keegan outlines her aim to understand the extensive feedback before publishing a full response early in the new year. This will take the form of an improvement plan.

Alongside this, the Education Secretary has confirmed £21m in funding to train more educational psychologists and an extension of a training programme for teachers to use assistive technology.

You can read the full open letter online. The DfE has also published a blog on how the department is improving support for children with SEND.
