A grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation meant we were able to offer 37 Northampton families the chance to experience the magical ‘Lap of Lights’ at Silverstone racetrack last week and take a roadtrip to the Arctic, Paris and the Pyramids – all covered in twinkling lights.

Mark Constant from Northamptonshire Freemasons said: “We are delighted to be able to work with Contact to offer families an opportunity to have this unique experience and hopefully have loads of fun. We know it’s been a particularly difficult time and the pandemic has led to much greater isolation amongst the families Contact supports. We hope that their trip around Silverstone brought some New Year cheer!”

Charlotte Amison, Contact’s Better Together Events Manager, commented: “The Lap of Lights is very special event and we are really grateful to the Freemasons for their generous gift of tickets for our families. Many families with disabled children can feel very alone and isolated and Contact’s Better Together events like this one are the perfect antidote to this. They provide an opportunity for families to share fun experiences and help boost family confidence, make friends and build support networks.”

Funding for the event on 3 January from Northamptonshire Freemasons comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation – the Freemasons own charity where funds are raised through their members, families and friends across England and Wales.

Better Together is Contact’s series of fun and engaging activities popular with families with disabled children who might not always have had the opportunity to take part in. Sessions could be focused on nature, art, music or sport for example and are a great opportunity for parents to meet each other and our parent support workers.
